Thassos — the island
of emerald and marble
Dense pine forests, turquoise coves, ancient ruins — and a pace of life that reminds you to breathe
Discover Thassos
Greece’s green island
Unlike the bare Cycladic islands, Thassos is blanketed in thick pine and plane forests that roll all the way down to some of the clearest water in the Aegean. It’s an island for people who want more than a sunbed — ancient theatres, mountain villages, hidden waterfalls, and tavernas where the catch comes off the boat at noon.

01
Beaches
Where the pine meets the sea
From the broad sandy arc of Golden Beach — just steps from Aegli — to the dramatic marble pebbles of Saliara and the sheltered cove of Alyki, Thassos offers a beach for every mood. The water is famously clear and calm, making it ideal for families and snorkellers alike.
02
Villages & Town
Life at its own pace
Thassos Town (Limenas) is the lively capital with a pretty harbour, open-air cinema, and the remains of the ancient agora. Inland, the mountain villages of Theologos and Kastro feel frozen in time — whitewashed houses, stone fountains, and kafeneions where the coffee arrives without being asked.

03
Hiking & Nature
The other side of the island
A network of marked trails crosses the island’s forested interior, leading to waterfalls, panoramic ridgelines, and the 1,204 m summit of Ipsarion. The Thassos Trail circumnavigates the entire island on foot — a multi-day adventure through pine, olive grove, and village. Birdwatchers will find warblers, woodpeckers, and the occasional eagle overhead.
04
Food & Tavernas
Eaten honestly, cooked slowly
Thassos is known for its honey, olive oil, and fresh seafood. Harbour-side tavernas in Golden Beach serve grilled octopus and freshly caught bream under string lights every evening. Look out for local specialities — Thassos olives, thyme honey, and souma, the island’s fiery spirit distilled from grape pomace.

Historical Sites
2,500 years underfoot
Ancient Thassos was a major Aegean power — its marble quarries supplied temples across Greece. Today the ancient theatre above Limenas still hosts summer performances with the sea as a backdrop. The Archaeological Museum, the ancient walls circuit, and the marble sanctuary at Alyki are all within easy reach of Aegli.
